Pause Drime Desktop sync for 30 minutes, an hour, until tomorrow or until you resume it, for example on a slow or metered connection.

1. Click the Drime icon in the notification area to open the Drime window.

2. Open the pause menu.

At the top of the window, click the sync status line, for example **Your files are synced**. While files are syncing, you can also click **Pause** at the bottom of the window.

3. In **Pause sync**, choose how long: **30 minutes**, **1 hour**, **Until tomorrow** or **Indefinitely**.

The Drime window then shows **Syncing paused until …** or **Syncing paused indefinitely**. Nothing is sent or received until sync resumes.

To restart sync earlier, click **Resume**, or **Resume sync** in the same menu.

While sync is paused, the Drime icon in the notification area reads **Drime · Paused** when you point to it.

## Pause a backup

Backups pause on their own, separately from sync: in the menu of a backup, choose **Pause backup**, then **Resume backup** to restart it. See [Back up folders from your computer](https://drime.cloud/support/desktop/back-up-your-computer).

## If sync pauses on its own

| What you see | What to do |
| --- | --- |
| **Sync is paused until you choose.** | Drime Desktop stopped because many files were deleted from your Drime folder. Answer the warning to restart sync. See "Delete files from your Drime drive?" warning. |
| **You are offline. Syncing resumes as soon as the network is back.** | Check your internet connection: sync restarts on its own. |
| **Paused after repeated errors, will retry automatically** | Drime Desktop retries on its own. If it keeps failing, see [Fix desktop sync errors](https://drime.cloud/support/desktop/fix-sync-errors). |

To see where sync stands, see [Check your sync status](https://drime.cloud/support/desktop/sync-status).

> **Tip**

> To keep syncing but use less bandwidth, limit the upload or download speed instead: see [Limit bandwidth and use a proxy](https://drime.cloud/support/desktop/limit-bandwidth).
