Why a photo or video shows at the wrong date in Drime Photos, how Drime picks the date, how to change the order, and what to do when the date is lost.

**Symptoms**

- In Photos, a picture or a video appears in the wrong month or year.
- A tile shows **No taken date available** when you point to it.
- In the Drive list, **Last modified** shows one date but the files sort in another order.

**Possible causes**

Drime places each photo by its **Date taken**. It reads that date from the photo's own information (its EXIF data), in your browser, when the file is uploaded. For a video, it uses the date it was recorded.

When a file has no such date, Drime uses the modification date your browser sends, or else the upload date. This often happens with photos that were exported, edited or copied: they lost their original date along the way.

**Checks**

1. In Photos, check the order you chose: **Date taken** (the default), **Date uploaded** or **Date modified**, **Newest first** or **Oldest first**, grouped by **Years**, **Months** or **Days**.
2. Point to a photo that looks misplaced: **No taken date available** means the file has no date taken.
3. On your computer, open the properties of the original file and check whether it has a date taken.

**How to fix it**

### Change the order of your photos

In the Photos filters, choose **Date uploaded** or **Date modified** to order them differently, or change the grouping. See [Browse your photos and create albums](https://drime.cloud/support/drive/photos-and-albums).

### The photo has no date taken

Upload the original file, as it came from the camera or the phone, rather than an exported or edited copy. Dates can't be edited in Drime.

For recent JPEG, TIFF and WebP uploads, Drime also looks for a missing date in the background.

### The Drive list sorts differently

In the Drive list, **Last modified** shows the file's original date, but sorting uses the date the file was added to Drime. The Drive list has no Date taken sort: use Photos to see your pictures in the order they were taken.

**Still stuck?**

If a photo that has a date taken on your computer still appears at the wrong date after you upload the original again, [contact support](https://drime.cloud/support/getting-started/contact-drime-support) with the file name and both dates.
