Add a text or picture watermark to an image in Drime, or make it smaller with Compress, and save the result as a copy so the original stays as it was.

## Add a watermark

1. Open the image, then choose **Edit** \> **Watermark**.

2. Choose a text or a picture, then set it up.

Position (**Repeat** covers the whole image), colour, rotation, opacity and size. The default text is DRAFT, repeated.

3. Click **Save a copy**.

A copy named after the image, followed by \_watermarked, is saved in the same folder. **Watermarked copy saved** confirms it.

> **Warning**
>
> **Save** replaces the image itself. On a JPEG, HEIC or other image that isn't PNG or WebP, it also turns the image into JPEG while keeping its name. Prefer **Save a copy**.

## Compress an image

1. Open the image, then choose **Edit** \> **Compress**.

![The compress tool comparing the original and compressed image with a slider](https://drime.cloud/media/01M5DR3C9HJAH8N0K18HQ6WC7M/c9f0af330011-web-image-compress.png)

2. Choose the format and the quality.

MozJPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF or JPEG XL. You can also resize the image and reduce its palette. Drag the slider to compare **Original** and **Compressed**.

3. Save the result.

**Save a copy** (`Ctrl` + `Shift` + `S`) adds a copy named after the image, followed by \_compressed. **Replace original** (`Ctrl` + `S`) overwrites the image. **Download** saves it to your computer.

Compressing runs in your browser. If you change the format, **Replace original** keeps the old file name: prefer **Save a copy**.

## If it doesn't work

| What you see | What to do |
| --- | --- |
| **Watermark** or **Compress** isn't offered | The image is in a computer backup, which is read-only on the web. |
| The image changed format after saving | **Save** and **Replace original** can do that: restore the earlier version with **File versions**. See [Restore a previous version of a file](https://drime.cloud/support/drive/restore-a-previous-version). |

For cropping, filters and other edits, see the image editor: [Edit an image](https://drime.cloud/support/more-apps/edit-an-image).
