# Leave a family

Leave a Drime Family: your account and files stay yours, you go back to your own storage and can keep a copy of what you added to the Family Room.

A member can leave their family at any time. The manager cannot: they [hand the family over](https://drime.cloud/support/family/hand-over-the-family) or [dissolve it](https://drime.cloud/support/family/dissolve-a-family).

## Leave the family

1. On your family page, click **Leave the family**.

   You can also click your avatar, then **Settings**, choose **Family** and click **Leave**.

2. Keep or clear **Keep a copy of what I added to the Family Room**.

   The copy goes into your own Drive, in a folder named after the Room, and counts toward your own space.

3. Confirm.

   **You left the family** confirms it.

## What happens when you leave

- Your account and every file stay yours.
- You go back to your own storage. If you are above it, nothing is deleted: you just cannot add files until there is room.
- You lose access to the Family Room. What you added stays in the Room in every case. If you left **Keep a copy of what I added to the Family Room** checked, you also find a copy in your own Drive.
- The manager is told, if their e-mail setting for it is on.

## If it doesn't work

| Message | What to do |
| --- | --- |
| **As the manager, dissolve the family instead of leaving it.** | [Hand the family over](https://drime.cloud/support/family/hand-over-the-family) to stay as a member, or [dissolve it](https://drime.cloud/support/family/dissolve-a-family). |
| **The copy is larger than the space left in your own storage. Free up some space first, or leave without a copy: the files stay in the Family Room.** | [Free up space](https://drime.cloud/support/drive/check-and-free-up-storage), or clear the copy option. |
| Only the manager can take your account out of the family | Your account has the Stay in the family control. Ask the manager. |
