When your photos and videos are safely backed up to Drime, you can remove them from your phone to free up space. Your copies stay in Drime.

## Remove backed-up photos and videos

1. In the Drime app, tap your avatar at the top left, then **Free up space**.

   You can also find **Free up space** in **Settings**.

2. In **Choose a cutoff date**, choose how much recent media to keep on the phone.

   The choices are **30 days**, **60 days**, **90 days**, **1 year**, **2 years**, **3 years** or a **Custom date**. Everything more recent stays on the phone.

3. In **Keep on device**, choose what is never removed.

   **Keep favourites** is on by default. **Always keep** lets you keep all your photos or all your videos. **Keep albums** lets you keep chosen albums: the albums of messaging apps and your Downloads are ticked in advance.

4. Tap **Scan**.

   The app looks for backed-up items older than your cutoff date, and shows how many it found and their size.

5. Tap **Free up space**, then confirm with **Delete from device**.

The app then shows how many items were removed and how much space was freed.

Only items that Drime can prove are backed up are removed. If nothing is backed up yet, the app shows **Nothing to remove. Free up space only removes items already backed up to Drime.** See [Back up your phone's photos and videos](https://drime.cloud/support/mobile/back-up-your-photos).

## Clear offline files and the cache

The same screen also lets you:

- see your **Large files**, the files of 5 MB or more in your Drime, heaviest first;
- **Clear offline files**, to remove the copies of files you made available offline;
- **Clear device cache**, to remove thumbnails and temporary files.

The app asks you to confirm each time.
