The Drime PDF editor lets you fill in a PDF and add your signature directly in your browser, without sending the document to anyone. To collect other people's signatures, use Drime Sign instead: see [Send a document for signature](https://drime.cloud/support/sign/request-signatures).

## Open the PDF in the editor

1. Double-click the PDF in your Drive.

It opens in the file viewer.

2. In the viewer toolbar, click **Edit**, then **Edit in Drime**.

You can also click **Edit PDF** in the row of actions above the file list, select the file in **Choose a PDF to edit**, then click **Choose**.

> **Note**
>
> The **Sign** button of the file viewer does not open the editor: it starts a signature request in Drime Sign. To sign in the editor, open the editor first as described above.

## Fill in the form

1. In the editor toolbar, click **Forms**.

The editor detects the fields that already exist in the PDF.

2. Click each field and fill it in.

If the PDF has no form fields, use **Add text** to add your text on the page.

## Add your signature

1. In the editor toolbar, click **Sign**.

2. Create your signature: draw it, type it, or upload an image of it.

3. Place it on the page.

The **Signing options** menu next to **Sign** also offers **Request e-signatures (Drime Sign)**, to send the document to other signers.

## Save your changes

Click **Save** to replace the PDF. The previous content is kept as a version of the file, unless you turned file versioning off.

To keep the original untouched, click the arrow next to **Save**, then **Save as a copy**, and choose the folder of the new file. The same menu also offers **Save (overwrite)**.

> **Warning**
>
> If you leave the editor with unsaved changes, Drime asks **Discard unsaved changes?**: click **Discard** to leave without saving, or close the dialog and save first.

> **Tip**
>
> To sign with Drime Sign, which seals and timestamps the document and adds an audit certificate, see [Sign a document yourself](https://drime.cloud/support/sign/sign-a-document-yourself).

## If it doesn't work

| What you see | What to do |
| --- | --- |
| **This PDF is password protected** | Enter the PDF's password in **Document password** to open it in the editor. |
| **This document only allows filling existing fields. Form design tools are locked.** | You can fill in the fields of this form, but not add new ones. |
| **This PDF is digitally signed** | Saving would break its signature. Choose **Save as a copy**, or **Save anyway** if you accept it. |
| **Could not save PDF** | The PDF was not saved. Check your connection and save again. |

For the other editing messages, see [Edit a PDF](https://drime.cloud/support/pdf-editor/edit-a-pdf#problems).
