# What happens if I go over my storage or my plan ends

When your files take more space than your plan allows, uploads stop but nothing is deleted. What still works, and how to upload again.

Your storage limit is the storage of your plan, or of the free plan, plus any bonus from inviting friends. If your files take more space than that, uploads stop, but your files stay where they are and nothing is deleted.

**When can my files go over my limit?**

Mostly when your storage limit gets smaller:

- your paid plan ends after you cancelled it;
- you move to a smaller plan;
- your account goes back to the free plan.

A cancelled plan keeps its storage until the end of the period you already paid. Before you confirm a cancellation, Drime tells you if you would be over the limit: **You would be … over the limit, so uploads stop until you free up space. Your files stay where they are, and nothing is deleted.**

**What stops working?**

Anything that adds data to your storage: uploading, copying, extracting an archive and converting files. Drime then shows **You have exhausted your allowed space of …. Delete some files or upgrade your plan.**

**What keeps working?**

You can still open, download, share and restore your files. Nothing is deleted because you are over your limit.

**How do I upload again?**

Bring your files back under your limit, or get more storage:

- empty the Trash: files in it still count;
- delete files you no longer need, or old versions of your files;
- upgrade to a larger plan (**Upgrade**).

See [Check and free up storage space](https://drime.cloud/support/drive/check-and-free-up-storage) and [Upgrade or change your plan](https://drime.cloud/support/plans-and-billing/upgrade-or-change-plan).

**What about workspaces and file requests?**

In a workspace, files can count against the owner's storage. When it is full, members see **The workspace owner's storage is full. New files can't be added to this workspace until the owner frees up space or upgrades their plan.**

When someone sends you files through a file request and your storage is full, they see **This upload can't be accepted right now. The recipient's storage is full. Let them know so they can free up space.**

## If it doesn't work

| What you see | What to do |
| --- | --- |
| **You have exhausted your allowed space of …. Delete some files or upgrade your plan.** | Free up space or upgrade, then try again. |
| You emptied the Trash but uploads still fail | Your files may still be over the limit: check **Settings** \> **Storage**, and delete old versions or more files. |
| **The workspace owner's storage is full. …** | Only the workspace owner can free up space or upgrade. Let them know. |
