# Require an email, NDA or watermark on a link

Ask visitors for their email or their agreement to an NDA before they see your file, add a watermark, discourage screenshots and get an email at each view.

Before a visitor sees what you share, you can ask for their email address or their agreement to an NDA. You can also show their email over the content, discourage screenshots and printing, and get an email each time someone views the link.

## Turn on the options

1. Right-click the file or folder and choose **Share**.

2. Open **Link settings**: click **Manage** under the link, or the gear icon at the top of the dialog.

3. Click **Advanced options**, then go to **Visitor access & protection**.

4. Turn on the options you want, then click **Save**.

   **Link settings saved** confirms it.

All the options are off by default, unless you changed the defaults for new links (see below). Turning one on (except the simplified viewer) also tracks the item in Send & Track. ## What each option does

| Option | What it does |
| --- | --- |
| **Require an email to view** | **Visitors must leave their email before the content opens. Captured emails appear in Send & Track.** |
| **Email me when someone views** | Drime emails you at each view. In **Ignored domains**, list domains such as your own company's: **Visitors with an email on these domains never trigger a notification.** |
| **Require agreement (NDA) before access** | Visitors must accept an agreement before they see the content. Write your own text in **Agreement text**. The acceptance is recorded with its date and time. |
| **Simplified PDF viewer (minimal, distraction-free)** | Shows a PDF in a minimal viewer. Only offered for PDF files. |
| **Dynamic watermark (visitor email tiled over the content)** | Shows the visitor's email and the date over the content. |
| **Screenshot & print deterrents** | Blocks right-click, the print shortcut and text selection, and clears the clipboard when the visitor presses Print Screen. |

## Set the default options for new links

1. At the top right, click your avatar, then **Settings** \> **Send & Track**.

2. In **Default link options**, turn on the options you want for every new link.

   They are **Simplified PDF viewer**, **Email me when someone views** (with its **Ignored domains**), **Require an email to view**, **Require agreement (NDA) before access**, **Dynamic watermark** and **Screenshot protection**.

   **Settings saved** confirms each change. **These settings apply automatically when you create a new Send & Track link. You can still override them per link.**

In **Engagement tracking**, **Pause tracking when inactive** is on by default: **Stop counting time when the visitor is idle, durations and completion stay honest.** **Inactivity timeout (seconds)** sets how long a visitor can stay idle before tracking pauses: 60 seconds by default.

## What visitors see

When the link asks for an email or an agreement, visitors first see a page with the name of the link, or **This document is protected**.

- With an email: **The sender requires your email address to view this document.** They enter their **Email address**, and their name if they want (**Name (optional)**).
- With an agreement: **Please review and accept the agreement below to view this document.** They read the **Agreement**, then tick **I have read and agree to the terms above**.

They then click **View document**. The page tells them: **Your information is shared with the document owner and used only for access reporting.**

The same browser is not asked again the next time it opens this link.

## If it doesn't work

| What you see | What to do |
| --- | --- |
| **Please enter a valid email address** (visitor side) | The visitor must enter a complete email address, such as [name@example.com](mailto:name@example.com). |
| **View document** stays greyed out | The visitor has not entered a valid email yet, or has not ticked the agreement box. |
| No **Advanced options** in Link settings | These options are not available for whiteboard links. |
| No **Simplified PDF viewer** option | It is only offered for PDF files. |
| You receive no view emails | Check that **Email me when someone views** is on, and that the visitor's domain is not in **Ignored domains**. |
