Drime gives you two ways to share a file or folder: invite people by email, or share a link. Both start from **Share** on the item.

## Compare

| | Invite people by email | Share a link |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Who can open it | Only the people you add | Anyone who has the link |
| Account needed | No. People with a Drime account find it under **Shared**; people without one get their own personal link by email | No |
| What they can do | You choose per person: **Can view**, **Can Download** or **Can edit** | View and download by default. You can turn downloads off in **Link settings** |
| Notification | Each person gets an email | You send the link yourself |
| Protection | Only the people you added can open it | A password or an expiration date, depending on your plan |
| How many | Up to 50 addresses at a time | One link per item |
| Stop sharing | Remove a person from **Who has access** | **Delete link** |

## When to invite people

Invite people when you know who should have access, want to give each person their own rights, or need someone to edit: upload into a shared folder, create folders, rename or move items. See [Share a file or folder with people](https://drime.cloud/support/sharing-and-collaboration/share-files-and-folders) and [Sharing permissions explained](https://drime.cloud/support/sharing-and-collaboration/sharing-permissions).

## When to share a link

Share a link when you want to send a file or folder to many people, or post it somewhere, without managing a list of names. Visitors don't need an account. See [Create and copy a share link](https://drime.cloud/support/sharing-and-collaboration/create-a-share-link) and [Protect a link with a password or an expiration date](https://drime.cloud/support/sharing-and-collaboration/protect-a-link).

> **Note**
>
> Nobody you share with can delete items they don't own, whichever way you share.
