In most cases, a file counts toward the storage of the person who added it.

**Someone added files to a folder I shared. Do they use my storage?**

No. A file uploaded into a folder shared with someone belongs to the person who uploaded it and counts toward their storage, not the folder owner's.

**I uploaded files into a folder someone shared with me. Whose storage do they use?**

Yours. You own the files you upload, even in someone else's folder.

**What are the exceptions?**

- Workspaces billed to their owner: in a workspace set up this way, files added by members count toward the workspace owner's storage.
- File requests: files received through a [file request](https://drime.cloud/support/sharing-and-collaboration/file-requests) belong to you, the person who created the request, and count toward your storage.
