# My uploads are slow

Why an upload to Drime is slow or stays on Finalizing in progress, what Drime does on its own when the network drops, and what you can do to speed it up.

**Symptoms**

- An upload takes much longer than you expect.
- Many small files upload slowly, while one big file goes fast.
- A file stays on **Finalizing in progress** at 100%.
- **Network issue detected, uploads paused. Will retry shortly.** appears.

**Possible causes**

Drime applies no speed limit, and no plan uploads faster than another. Your files go straight from your browser to storage, so the speed depends on:

- your internet connection, and especially its upload speed;
- your browser;
- the number of files: many small files take longer than one big file of the same total size.

Files over 5 MiB are sent in parts, with up to 8 transfers at the same time.

**Checks**

1. Test the upload speed of your connection, for example with another service.
2. Keep the Drime tab open and your computer awake until the upload ends.
3. Look at the upload panel: the status of each file tells you where it stands.

**How to fix it**

### The file stays on Finalizing in progress

The file has been sent: Drime is putting its parts together and creating it in your Drive. On a large file this can take a while. If a file with the same name already exists, Drime waits for your choice in **Duplicate Files Found**: check that this dialog is not open. See [When a file with the same name exists](https://drime.cloud/support/drive/upload-files-and-folders#duplicates).

### Uploads pause on their own

When the connection is unstable, Drime retries each part on its own. After 5 failures in a row, uploads pause for 30 seconds with **Network issue detected, uploads paused. Will retry shortly.**, then start again. If you are offline, **You are offline, uploads will resume when connected.** appears, and uploads resume when you are back online.

### You want to reload or close the page

Reloading cancels the uploads in progress: Drime warns you with **Uploads in progress** and **Reload anyway**. If you reload anyway, the upload may start again from the beginning. For a large file, uploading the same file again from the same browser within 6 days can send only the parts that are missing.

### A file failed

Drime tries a failed file again up to 3 times. After that, click **Retry** on its row, or **Retry all**. The row may show one of these messages:

- Failed after 3 retries
- Upload stalled, no response from storage after several retries
- Upload session expired. Please re-upload the file.
- Network error, check your connection or disable Cloudflare Rocket Loader

Check your connection, then retry. For other messages, see [My upload fails or is stuck](https://drime.cloud/support/troubleshooting/upload-fails).

### Uploads with Drime Desktop are slow

In Drime Desktop, open **Preferences** \> **Network** and check **Upload rate limit**: with **Limit to** and a value, Drime Desktop never goes faster than that value. Auto applies no limit today. See [Limit bandwidth and use a proxy](https://drime.cloud/support/desktop/limit-bandwidth).

**Still stuck?**

If uploads stay slow while your connection is fast, [contact support](https://drime.cloud/support/getting-started/contact-drime-support) with the result of **Copy error details** if a file failed, your browser, the number and size of the files, and the upload speed of your connection.
