# Create your Vault

Set up your Vault in the Drime web app and choose a strong Vault Pass. It cannot be recovered or changed later, so keep it somewhere safe.

The first time you open Vault, Drime asks you to choose a Vault Pass. This password protects the encryption keys of your Vault. It is separate from your account password, and you will type it each time you unlock the Vault.

> **Important**
>
> Nobody can recover your Vault Pass, not even Drime, and it cannot be changed later. Save it in a password manager before you continue.

## Create the Vault

1. In the left rail, click **Vault**.

The **Create a new Vault** page opens.

2. In **Create Vault Pass**, type the Vault Pass you want.

It needs at least 8 characters, and the strength meter under the field must show **Strong** or **Very strong**.

3. In **Repeat Vault Pass**, type it again.

4. Click **Create my Vault**.

**Securing your Vault** appears while the keys are created in your browser, then your Vault opens, already unlocked.

Your new Vault is empty and ready: add files with **Upload** or **Create**.

## Use your Vault on your other devices

You can also create a vault in the Drime mobile app: see [Use your Vault on your phone](https://drime.cloud/support/mobile/vault-on-your-phone). Wherever you create it, your Vault opens in the web app, in Drime Desktop for Windows and in the Drime mobile apps, with the same Vault Pass. See [Vault on your computer and phone](https://drime.cloud/support/vault/vault-on-desktop-and-mobile).

## If you forget your Vault Pass

Nobody can recover it. The only way out is **Reset Vault**, in **Settings** \> **Vault**: **By resetting your Vault, you will permanently delete all currently encrypted files. This action cannot be undone.** See [I forgot my Vault Pass](https://drime.cloud/support/vault/forgot-your-vault-pass).

## If it doesn't work

| Message | What to do |
| --- | --- |
| **Your pass must be at least 8 characters long.** | Use a longer Vault Pass. |
| **Use a strong pass: a vault cannot be recovered.** | The meter is below **Strong**. Make it longer or less predictable: the meter suggests what to avoid, such as names, dates or keyboard sequences. |
| **Passwords do not match** | Type the same Vault Pass in both fields. |
| **Failed to create vault. Please try again.** | The Vault could not be created. Check your connection, then click **Create my Vault** again. |

> **Tip**
>
> A sentence of several unrelated words is easier to remember than a short string of symbols.
