Create an end-to-end encrypted link to a Vault file, protect it with a password or an expiration date, and revoke it when you no longer want to share.

You can share a file from your Vault with a link. The file stays end-to-end encrypted: **The decryption key lives in the link itself and never reaches our servers.**

## Create a link

1. Unlock your Vault.

**Vault must be unlocked to share**: see [Unlock and lock your Vault](https://drime.cloud/support/vault/unlock-and-lock).

2. Right-click the file, then choose **Share**.

   **Share encrypted file** opens.

3. Click **Copy link**.

**Generating secure link…** shows while the link is created, then **Link copied to clipboard** confirms it.

The link ends with the decryption key, after the `#` sign. Send the whole link: **Anyone with this link can view**.

## What the person you share with sees

The person opens the link in a browser. The file is decrypted in their browser.

## Protect or change the link

Click **Manage** to open **Link settings**:

- **Password protection**: **Add an optional password.** The person must enter it to open the file.
- **Expiration**: **Auto-revokes the link after the chosen date.**
- **Allow download**: **Visitors can download** the file. It is on by default.
- **Revoke and recreate**: **Issues a new public link URL. The previous URL stops working immediately; recipients will need the new one.** **New link created** confirms it.

Click **Save**: **Settings saved** confirms it.

## Share with a QR code

Click **Show QR** to show a QR code for the link. **Scan to open the encrypted link. The QR contains the decryption key, treat it as sensitive.**

## Stop sharing

Click **Revoke link**. **Link revoked** confirms it: the link stops working.

## If it doesn't work

| What you see | What to do |
| --- | --- |
| **Vault must be unlocked to share** | Unlock your Vault, then share again. |
| **This file cannot be shared** | **It was added to your vault before the new sharing system. Re-upload it to enable sharing.** Download the file, then upload it again to your Vault. |
| **Could not create share link** | The link was not created. Try again. |
| **Could not update share link** or **Could not revoke share link** | The change was not saved. Try again. |
| The person sees **This link is password protected. Enter the password to continue.** | Give them the password you set. **Password is not valid** means it was mistyped. |
| The person sees **This share link has been revoked.** | You revoked the link, or recreated it. Send them the new link. |
| The person sees **This shared file has expired.** | The expiration date has passed. Change it in **Link settings**, or create a new link. |
| The person sees **This shared file is no longer available.** | The file is no longer shared. Create a new link if you still want to share it. |
| The person sees **Could not open shared file** | Check that they received the whole link, including the part after `#`, which is the key. |
