Behind the Cloud – April 2026 Update

April has been a busy month for the Drime team. At the beginning of the month, we released our biggest update so far, which we covered in our previous blog post. Since then, we’ve been closely monitoring performance across the platform. The results are clear. Drime is now significantly faster, more stable, and much more reliable in everyday use. The web app and mobile app are now smooth and usable under normal conditions. Failed uploads have been drastically reduced, and we’ve focused on what matters most: improving the core experience.

Mobile updates

We continued improving the mobile experience with a strong focus on performance and usability.

Better media handling

  • Faster loading for images, thumbnails, and galleries

  • PSD and PDF thumbnail support

Workspace management on mobile

  • Admin dashboard now available (statistics, members, branding, settings)

  • Ability to create workspaces directly in the app

Translations

  • Improved consistency across languages

  • Reduced leftover French strings in the English version

Performance

  • Overall performance improvements across the app

New capabilities

  • Web shortcut support

  • Send & Track and File Requests now aligned with the latest web features

UX improvements

  • Easier renaming (extensions handled properly)

  • Improved controls and bottom sheets

Fixes

  • Fixed failed uploads on certain formats above 100MB


Web updates

We shipped a large number of improvements across the web app this month.

Some are visible immediately. Others are deeper changes that make Drime faster, more reliable, and more consistent overall.


Faster navigation and file access

We introduced Quick View, a new way to preview and navigate files instantly.

  • Open files in a lightweight overlay without leaving your current view

  • Move quickly between files

  • Jump to the parent folder in one click

  • Stay focused while browsing large structures

This significantly reduces friction when working with multiple files.

Sharing: more control and flexibility

We improved how sharing works across the platform.

  • Ability to leave shared folders

  • “Unshare” option directly from right-click in the sharing interface

PDF Editor: built into Drime

We introduced a fully integrated PDF editor, directly available in the web app.

  • Draw freely

  • Insert images

  • Erase annotations

  • Highlight content

  • Add text

  • Edit existing text

  • Add shapes

  • Crop pages

  • Sign documents

  • Split PDFs

  • Merge PDFs

  • Reorganize pages

  • Add page numbers

  • Convert PDFs

  • Compress files

File operations: more reliable

Core file actions have been improved again.

  • ZIP extraction is now more stable and predictable

  • File conversion has been upgraded:

    • More supported formats

    • Better reliability

    • Faster processing

    • Progress tracking

These operations are still being optimized, but already much more consistent.

Uploads: improved reliability

We fixed multiple issues affecting uploads.

  • Better handling across different browsers

  • Reduced failed uploads on specific formats

  • Improved stability for larger files

New file types

We added support for web shortcut files.

  • Create .url files directly in Drime

  • Open links instantly across web, desktop, and mobile

Permissions and collaboration

We added more granular control inside workspaces.

  • Individual access restrictions per file or folder

  • Comments now supported directly on PDFs

Interface and usability

  • Fixed dark mode inconsistencies

  • Improved responsiveness on all screen sizes

  • “Open with” option for files and folders

  • Folder sorting now consistent with the main drive

Developer tools

We introduced a new Developer mode.

  • Accessible from Settings → Developers

  • Quickly retrieve:

    • Workspace ID

    • File ID

    • Hashes

    • Other technical identifiers

Smarter folder controls

Folders are now easier to manage.

You can access new folder-specific settings directly from the right-click menu.

Storage management

  • See what takes the most space inside a folder

  • View storage by content type: images, videos, documents, audio, and more

  • Quickly identify the largest files

  • Delete heavy files directly from the storage panel

  • Sort content by size or recent activity

Folder notifications

  • Choose what you want to be notified about

  • Get alerts when files are added

  • Get alerts when files are deleted

  • Receive notifications instantly or as a daily summary

Automatic naming conventions

  • Create naming rules for files inside a folder

  • Add dates automatically

  • Choose date formats

  • Capitalize initials

  • Replace word separators with spaces or custom formatting

  • Apply rules to future files in the folder

Fixes and improvements

We also shipped a large number of fixes:

  • Fixed video playback issues in shared links

  • Fixed download issues on shared links

  • Added email security notifications for new sign-ins

  • User profile pictures now visible in file previews

  • Improved backend reliability across multiple systems

  • Dozens of smaller fixes across the platform


Desktop app

We are still finalizing the new desktop application.

We know the wait has been long. This is the most requested feature, and we want to get it right.

Our goal is to deliver something that truly reflects Drime:

  • High performance

  • Strong reliability

  • Clean and intuitive interface

  • Support for complex workflows

The app is currently being tested internally and by early testers.


Browser extension

We’ve just launched our browser extension: Drime Save.


Save web content directly to your Drime storage in one click.

What you can do

  • Right-click any image, link, or page to save it instantly

  • Select text and save it as a file

  • Hold Alt to select multiple images and upload them in batch

  • Get instant notifications after each save

How it works
Right-click on any content and choose “Save to Drime”.
All files are automatically organized in your dedicated Drime Save folder, accessible from any device.

Ongoing improvements

Beyond visible features, we’ve continued working on the backend, especially to prepare for the desktop release.

We’re also continuing improvements across all platforms, including Rclone integration.

We’ve seen a huge improvement in stability and performance, and we’ll keep pushing in that direction.
