Behind the Cloud – February & March 2026 Update

15 min read

Over the past two months, we’ve been focused on improving Drime. Fixing issues, making things more reliable, and cleaning up a lot of the core systems. We didn’t post much during that time, but a lot has changed. Here’s what we’ve been working on.

Why it took time

Let’s be honest about what happened.

Right after launching Rclone in January, things took off much faster than we expected. Uploads alone increased by almost 10x, and everything else followed. More uploads. More moves. More deletes. More previews. More encoding. Just… more of everything.

At the same time, 01net published an article ranking Drime as the #1 European cloud storage alternative. Which is amazing, honestly. We’re really grateful for that. But it also meant a huge wave of new users… right when we were already under heavy load.

During that period, we also upgraded a big part of our infrastructure. We moved to more powerful servers, improved our database, and made a lot of backend optimizations. It definitely helped, but it wasn’t the real problem.

Some core parts of Drime, like moving, copying, deleting files or processing videos, were simply not built for that level of scale and concurrency.

So we had a choice. Ship quick fixes and move on, or take the time to fix things properly.

We chose to rebuild.

Mobile app launch

A few weeks ago, we released our new mobile app with automatic photo backup, and the feedback has been very positive.

We redesigned the interface, improved performance, and fixed a large number of issues to make it much more reliable for daily use. We also expanded mobile support across the platform with Notes, Vault, file requests, sharing, and the gallery.

Photos and videos now keep their EXIF data, along with many other improvements across the app.

And we’re just getting started. Updates are already rolling out regularly.

The web update

This is the biggest web update we’ve shipped so far.

We reworked a large part of the platform to make everyday actions faster and more reliable. Moving files, copying folders, deleting content, previewing files… everything just works better now.

We also fixed a huge number of bugs across the app. Some were small, some more annoying, but together they make a real difference.

There’s honestly too much to list. This isn’t a full changelog.

  • Continued mobile improvements

  • More Vault enhancements

  • Further performance upgrades

  • More highly requested features

A note from the team

We didn’t expect Drime to grow this fast, and honestly, thank you. It means a lot. When things started scaling quickly, we saw where the limits were. We could have patched things and kept going, but that’s not how we want to build Drime. So we took a step back and fixed things properly, even if it meant slowing down for a bit.

We know it created a gap, and we’re sorry about that. But this is exactly what allows us to move faster now, with a much more solid foundation. From here, updates will be more frequent, things will feel more stable, and we’ll keep improving every part of the product. Thanks again for your trust, your feedback, and all the bug reports, we read everything and it genuinely helps. 2026 is just getting started.
