Uploading a file that already exists

What Drime does when you upload a file with the same name as one already in the folder, and how Replace, Keep both and Skip affect your files.

Updated Web

When you upload a file whose name is already used in the destination folder, Drime shows Duplicate Files Found and asks what to do. Choose an option, then click Continue.

The Duplicate Files Found dialog with the options Replace existing file, Keep both files and Skip file

What happens

Replace existing file

The upload becomes a new version of the existing file. The previous content is kept in the file's version history.

Keep both files

The new file is added with a number in its name, for example Report (1).pdf.

Skip file

The file is not uploaded.

To use the same choice for every duplicate in this upload, tick Apply to all duplicated files. Drime remembers that choice in this browser for your next uploads. When files are skipped this way, a message offers Ask me next time if you want the question back.

You can also set this in advance, or go back to being asked: open Settings > General > Customisation and, under Duplicate files, choose Always ask me what to do, Replace the existing file, Keep both files - a number is added to the filename or Skip the file - it will not be uploaded. This setting is the same choice Drime remembers in this browser.

The Drime mobile app has its own duplicate setting, with the same four choices: see Upload files and follow your transfers.

#Good to know

  • Names must match exactly, including upper and lower case: report.pdf and Report.pdf are different files.

  • Replace existing file never deletes your previous content right away. You can go back to it from File versions: see Restore a previous version of a file.

  • A file keeps up to 10 versions. When an 11th is added, the oldest is removed.

  • Earlier versions count toward your storage.
