Family storage and asking for more space
How a Drime Family shares storage: own space first, then the family storage. Set a limit per person, ask for more space, and storage alerts.
In a Drime Family, the family storage is the manager's plan storage, shared by everyone.
#How family storage works
Each member keeps the storage of their own account, free or paid, and uses it first.
Beyond it, they draw on the family storage, which everyone shares, the manager included.
The manager or a co-manager can cap what each person draws.
When storage runs out, nothing is deleted: adding files waits until there is room.
Only the manager sees what each person draws. Members don't see each other's usage.
In the Drive, the storage meter shows Shared with your family for the manager. For a member, it shows the family storage of the manager, and See my family opens the family page.
#Set a limit per person
In the family console, open Storage.

Under Limits per person, click Set a limit next to a person.
Choose the limit, then save.
In Family storage limit: No limit, Up to a limit (then the amount) or Own space only.

Storage limit saved confirms it.
To give new members a limit from the start, set Default limit for new members in the family settings. Lowering a limit never deletes files: the person just cannot add more until they are under it.
#Ask for more space
If the manager gave you a limit, you can ask for more:
On your family page, under Your storage, click Ask for more space.
Your storage shows your own space, what comes from the family and what is free.
Choose the amount and, optionally, add a word for the manager.

Click Send the request.
Your request was sent confirms it.
You can have one request at a time.
#Answer a request
The manager sees each request in the To do list of the Overview page: click Set the limit, then Approve, or click Decline.
#Storage alerts
The manager is alerted when the family storage reaches 80, 95 and 100%.
At 100%, members are also alerted in the app.
From 80%, members see a bar asking them to ask the manager for more room or to free up space. When full, it says Your storage is full.

To free up space, see Check and free up storage.
