Add, open and manage files in your Vault

Upload files and folders to your Vault, create encrypted documents, preview, download, move and delete them, and what works differently from your Drive.

Updated Web

Everything you add to an unlocked Vault is encrypted in your browser before it is uploaded. Inside the Vault, you work with your files much as in your Drive, with a few differences explained below.

#Add files

  1. Open your Vault and unlock it.

    See Unlock and lock your Vault.

  2. Open the folder where the files should go.

  3. Click Upload, then Upload files or Upload folder.

    The Vault toolbar with the Upload menu open on Upload files and Upload folder
  4. Choose the files or the folder on your computer.

    Uploaded 1 file (or the number of files) confirms it, and the transfers panel lists the upload as Import to Vault.

The maximum file size is the same as in your Drive. In your storage, a Vault file counts for its encrypted size.

#Create encrypted documents

Click Create, then choose:

  • Text document for a plain text file;

  • Encrypted page for a page like the ones in Pages;

  • Encrypted whiteboard for a whiteboard.

To organise your files, click Create folder.

#Open and preview files

Images, PDFs, audio, video, text and code files open in a preview, decrypted in your browser. You can edit text and code files up to 20 MB, and preview Word documents (.docx) up to 25 MB and spreadsheets up to 50 MB.

For other file types, the preview shows Preview for this file type is not supported in the vault: download the file to open it.

#Download files

Select the files, then click Download, or right-click a file and choose Download. The file is decrypted in your browser: File downloaded and decrypted successfully confirms it. Folders download as a ZIP file. When your browser cannot write directly to your disk, a download is held in memory, up to 500 MB on a computer and 100 MB on a phone.

#Move, rename and delete

Right-click a file or a folder, or click the ⋮ button at the end of its row. The menu offers Open, Info, Share, Add to starred, Move to, Rename, Download and Delete. When you select items, the bar above the list also offers Open, Share, Download and Delete.

The right-click menu of a file in the Vault
  • Files can only be moved within the same vault.

  • Delete moves the item to the Vault's Trash at once, without a confirmation: Moved 1 item to trash appears, with Undo to bring it back right away.

  • The Vault's Trash is in the Vault's sidebar. It is not emptied automatically, and its files count against your storage. Right-click a file in the trash for Open, Info, Download, Restore and Delete permanently; Restore puts it back where it was (Restored 1 item). Empty trash empties the whole Vault trash.

What to do

You do not have permission to move entries into this folder.

The destination is in another vault, or the items come from several vaults: items can only be moved within the same vault. Choose a folder of that vault.

Folder sharing is not yet available.

Folders of the Vault cannot be shared. Share files one by one instead.

Preview for this file type is not supported in the vault

Download the file to open it on your computer.

You deleted an item by mistake

Click Undo in the message right away, or restore it from the Vault's Trash.
