#rclone

rclone is a free command-line program that copies and syncs files between your computer and cloud storage services. Since January 2026 (rclone version 1.73 and later), it includes an official backend for Drime, which you can use for backups, scripted syncs or day-to-day access from a terminal.

rclone signs in to Drime with an API token instead of your password. Create one first: see Create an API token.

#Add a Drime remote

These are the prompts of rclone's own setup, as its Drime documentation shows them:

  1. In a terminal, run rclone config.

  2. Type n for New remote, then give the remote a name, for example remote.

  3. At the Storage prompt, type drime.

  4. At the access_token prompt, paste your API token.

  5. At Edit advanced config?, type n, then type y to keep the remote.

You can then use the remote like any other rclone remote, for example rclone ls remote: to list your files. To back up a Synology NAS on a schedule, see Back up a Synology NAS to Drime with rclone.

#Good to know

According to rclone's Drime documentation:

  • File names can be up to 255 bytes long (in UTF-8). Names with many accented or non-Latin characters reach that limit sooner.

  • Changes are detected by size. Drime does not give rclone modification times or hashes, so a sync only copies a file again when its size changed.

  • Deleted files go to the trash by default. The advanced option hard_delete deletes them permanently instead.

  • Workspaces: leave the advanced option workspace_id blank to use your own files, or set it to work in a workspace.

#Your Vault

rclone and the other tools you connect with an API token do not reach your Vault. Vault files are stored apart from your Drive and encrypted in your browser with a Vault Pass that Drime never has, so they are only available in Drime's own apps: the web app, Drime Desktop and the mobile apps. See What is Vault?.

#WebDAV

Drime does not offer WebDAV access yet: it is planned on the Drime roadmap. Until then, use rclone or Drime Desktop to work with your files from your computer.

#Duplicati

Duplicati, a free open-source backup program, has a built-in Drime Cloud destination since its version 2.4. See Back up your computer to Drime with Duplicati.

#If it doesn't work

What you see

What to do

drime is not in rclone's list of storage types

Your rclone may be older than version 1.73, the first one with the Drime backend. Update rclone, then run rclone config again.

rclone can list and download files but not upload

The token may have the Read Only permission. Create a token with All, then replace the remote's access_token with rclone config.

rclone can no longer connect

The token may have been revoked. Create a new one and replace the remote's access_token. See Create an API token.
