Folder settings: naming rules, notifications and size

What you can set on a folder: automatic naming rules for its files, email notifications, its storage, its activity and a recalculation of its size.

Updated Web

Right-click a folder and choose Folder settings to reach these options.

Right-click menu of the shared Brand refresh 2026 folder with its Folder settings submenu open: Manage storage, Folder notifications, Set naming convention, Recalculate size, Folder activity; nothing clicked

Option

What it does

Manage storage

Shows what takes room in this folder, by kind of file, with the largest items first.

Folder notifications

Emails you when files are added or deleted. See Get notified of activity in a shared folder.

Set naming convention

Renames files in the folder according to rules you define.

Recalculate size

Recounts the folder's size if it looks wrong.

Folder activity

Shows what happened in the folder. See See a file's details and activity.

#Naming conventions

  1. Choose Folder settings > Set naming convention.

  2. Click Add a rule and build the name.

For example Capitalize initials, Separate words with, Replace text or Keep only characters. Drag the rules to change their order.

  3. Choose where the rules apply.

Tick Rename the files already in this folder, Apply these rules to all future files in this folder, or both.

  4. Check the Preview, then click Set.

A rule that finds nothing to change in a file is skipped for that file.

#Recalculate a folder's size

If a folder shows a size that does not match its content, choose Folder settings > Recalculate size. Size updated to … shows the new size, or Size was already correct if nothing changed.
