Edit an image

Crop, rotate, adjust, filter, annotate, redact, frame or resize an image in Drime, then replace the original or save a copy.

Updated Web

Drime has an image editor built into the file preview. You can crop, adjust, annotate or resize an image, then replace the original or save a copy.

#Open the image editor

Open an image, then click Edit > Edit in editor, or the pencil icon. You can also use Edit in the Quick View panel, or click New > Modify > Edit > Image and pick the image in Choose an image to edit.

An image open in the Drime image editor on the Crop tab

Every image type opens except SVG, RAW, HEIC, HEIF and JPEG XL from the picker. RAW, HEIC and JPEG XL files opened from the preview can be edited, then saved as JPEG (see Save your image).

#The editing tools

Each tab of the editor gives a set of tools:

Tab

What you can do

Crop

Rotate & flip the image (Rotate left, Rotate right, Flip horizontal, Flip vertical), Straighten it by up to 45° each way, and choose an Aspect ratio, or Freeform.

Adjust

Change Brightness, Contrast, Saturation, Exposure, Temperature, Gamma, Clarity and Vignette. Reset adjustments sets them back.

Filters

Apply one of 13 filters, or go back to Original.

Markup

Draw and write with Move, Sharpie, Eraser, Path, Line, Arrow, Rectangle, Ellipse and Text, and choose the colour, the line width and the fill.

Stickers

Add an emoji, or your own picture with Add image….

Frame

Add one of 9 frames, or No frame.

Redact

Draw rectangles over the parts to hide: they are pixelated in the saved image. Clear redactions removes them.

Resize

Set the Output size in width and height, with Lock aspect ratio, or pick a percentage or a common size.

When you select a shape, a sticker or a text, you can change its Opacity, flip it, Bring to front, Duplicate or Delete it.

Undo and Redo step through your changes, and Reset starts again from the original. Keyboard shortcuts: Ctrl + Z undoes, Ctrl + Y or Ctrl + Shift + Z redoes. On a Mac, use Cmd instead of Ctrl.

#Save your image

The header shows Unsaved changes while you work, and No changes made when nothing has changed.

  • Save replaces the original. File saved confirms it. When file versioning is on, the previous image is kept as a version.

  • The arrow next to Save offers Save a copy and Replace original. Save a copy writes a new image in the same folder, named after the original with "(edited" and the date and time: Copy saved as then shows its name.

  • A RAW, HEIC or JPEG XL file is never replaced: Save as JPEG writes a JPEG next to it, and Saved as shows its name.

To leave without keeping your changes, click Cancel. Leave without saving? asks you to confirm: click Stay on page to go back to the editor.

The rotate buttons of the preview itself only turn the view: to rotate the file, use the Crop tab of the editor.

#If it doesn't work
