How file versions work

When Drime saves a version of a file, how many it keeps, how versions count toward your storage, and how to see, restore, delete or turn them off.

Updated Web
When does Drime save a version?

Drime saves a new version of a file when:

  • you upload a file with the same name and choose to replace the existing one;

  • you save it in an editor, the Office editor included;

  • you sign a document;

  • you restore an earlier version (the current one is kept as a version first).

Folders don't have versions.

How many versions are kept, and for how long?

Each file keeps up to 10 versions: when there are more, the oldest goes first. How many days versions are kept depends on your plan: 30 days on the free and Starter plans, 90 days on Essentials, and 120 days on Professional and Advanced. The version history shows it at the bottom, in Versions are kept for … days.

Do versions use my storage?

Yes. Since October 15, 2026, versions count toward your storage on every plan. See Why my storage used doesn't match my files.

How do I see or restore a version?

Right-click the file and choose File versions. Point to a version to download it, restore it with Restore this version, or delete it.

See Restore a previous version of a file.

How do I delete old versions or stop keeping them?
  • For one file: in File versions, click Clear all versions.

  • For all your files: in Settings > General > File versioning, click Delete next to Delete all older versions of my files.

  • To stop saving new versions, turn off Enable file versioning in the same place. Files in folders shared with you still get versions for the other people.
